Jeremiah holds a Master of Science degree in Counseling from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He is experienced in working with college students, young adults, adolescents, children, and families. He is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist.
His career includes service in full-time college ministry, practice in public and private mental health and substance abuse, partnerships with grant-funded programs, and work in juvenile justice. He is currently the Lead Treatment Specialist at Stonewall Jackson Youth Development Center where he supervises the substance abuse clinical team.
Jeremiah presents as a guest speaker at schools, churches, universities, and community programs. His speaking topics include racial and ethnic diversity, treating addictions, ADHD, anger management, behavior disorders in children and youth, identity development, and team building.
Jeremiah founded The Center of Hopes™ a counseling and training organization that focuses on providing therapeutic intervention to children and youth with learning disabilities, behavioral disorders, and involvement with the juvenile justice system. The Center of Hopes™ also provides training and resources to families and other service providers who work with youth considered at risk due to emotional, mental and behavioral challenges.
Jeremiah is relational and enjoys facilitating open dialogue between individuals from diverse backgrounds. He values the understanding and learning that occurs after sincerely listening to another’s story. Jeremiah cares about people and he values authentic relationships.
He is passionate about meeting the needs of youth, particularly those marginalized due to their involvement in the juvenile justice system. He believes that youth who struggle with mental health and substance abuse disorders, broken families and fragile communities need an opportunity to reach their potential and make productive choices in their lives. He endeavors to speak to others about the importance of not treating youth with problems as problems.
Jeremiah has facilitated presentations for and worked with a variety of entities including: Gardner Webb University, Cumberland County Schools, Gaston County Schools, Back Creek Presbyterian Church, Charlotte Area Health Education Center, Niles Township School District, Another Choice for Black Children Adoption Agency, School Nurse Association of North Carolina, Alcohol Beverage Control Board of Mecklenburg County, and North Carolina Governors Crime Commission Gang Intervention Program.
